L'AQUILA (ITALY): G8 leaders noted at the conference today that they are able to move much faster and discuss more topics during the day without Former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee around.
G8 Leaders in Italy expressing delight at the pace of discussions.

“Atal was a great guy, but he took too many long pauses between his sentences. It used to slow us down” said one Minister. “I remember Bill Clinton joked a lot about this. He would say ‘Atal, I am going for lunch, I’ll be back before you can say blueberrie pie’ and he would indeed be back before Atal said pie. It was hilarious”

“Once he started the day by talking about some protests and saying ‘Ye paristhitiyon ke gathbandhan ke falaswaroop bhagya ke mukh pe ek aisa lanchan hai jiski kinkartavyavimoodta ki anyamanasakta se parinaam me vilamb hone ki shakyata hai. Kintu ye kaal ke kapaal pe, ek gehri chot hogi’. By the time his sentence ended, so did the day!”

Mr. Vajpayee was the 11th Prime Minister of India and founder of BJP, the only party to serve a full 5 year term (99-04) apart from Congress. Among his many achievements is the all important National Highway Development Project. National Highways account for only about 2% of the total length of roads, but carry about 40% of the total traffic across the country. Vajpayee launched the now famous Golden Quadrilateral project, connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. However, bollywood star and incompetent biker Uday Chopra, only considers Vajpayee’s project as an attempt to write his thief friend from Dhoom2, ‘Mr. A’s name on the country twice.

Actor Uday Chopra still has no clue about what Vajpayee was trying to achieve

During his reign, Vajpayee introduced many important economic and infrastructural reforms including, encouraging the private sector and foreign investments; reducing governmental waste; encouraging research and development and privatizing of government owned corporations. Under him, India conducted nuclear tests in Pokharan and successfully completed Operation Vijay (1999). A Peace lover, he was responsible for normalizing India-China relations in ’79 for the first time since ’62 Sino-India war and pushing for a full scale diplomatic peace process with Pakistan with the historic launch of Delhi-Lahore bus service.

First person ever to speak in Hindi in a UN conference, Vajpayee’s talks with Bill Clinton led to significant expansion in trade and economic ties with US. His initiatives including extra funding and support for the information technology and high-tech industries, improvements in infrastructure, deregulation of trade, investments and corporate laws - all increased foreign capital investment and set in motion an economic expansion. But he was most popular amongst the female demographic for being a bachelor PM. In a classic case of wanting what you cannot have, a lot of girls wore the AB Vajpayee t-shirt while expressing their sexuality.

Whilst COI does not endorse any political party and our greatest wishes and hopes are with Congress party to produce a fantastic term, we do miss great leaders like ABV from the scene and believe that more such charismatic leaders are needed for India to have a prominent say in conferences like G8, whichever language we choose to speak in.
